Community is at the heart of the Linea ecosystem. As the fastest-growing zkEVM on Ethereum, dedication to constant improvement is in Linea’s blood. This means continuous evolution, improvement, and listening to user feedback across a network of dapps.
Through voyages from Linea Park to The Surge, Linea has nurtured engagement, with about 1.4 million users completing Proof of Humanity (PoH) and getting hands-on involvement with the rapidly growing dapp ecosystem. The LXP Program gauges ecosystem involvement, recognizing and empowering stakeholders within the decentralized network.
However, campaigns are about more than just LXP. Voyage participants are a critical group as we advance along the path of decentralization. The value of community participation during campaigns and throughout the network is clear.
For Linea’s network of dapps, a spike in users provides an opportunity to learn from increased feedback. That means your participation is helping shape a better future for web3, allowing dapps to make improvements more quickly and giving more credence to the web3 industry.
The Linea ecosystem is expanding, with dapps ranging from gaming to DeFi. Below, we spoke to the teams behind web3 trading card game Enders Gate and P2P swap platform FWDX to learn how community feedback has impacted their platforms.
5HeadGames is a Connecticut-based game development studio. Its flagship title is Enders Gate, a web3 trading card game inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, and Hearthstone, launched in 2021.
“We initially began on Harmony, the blockchain. We saw a lot of bad actors and wanted to change that up. We had a lot of passion, and we came up with the idea of wanting to build a game,” shares David Nimako, founder at 5HeadGames.
After launching on Harmony, Enders Gate migrated to Polygon before going cross-chain and launching on Linea early in 2024. “We're aiming to be a bigger name in Linea, of course, and then leverage that across the board,” says Nimako.
Shortly after joining the ecosystem, Enders Gate participated in Linea Park, which was focused on revolutionizing web3 gaming and social dapps. Going into Linea Park, Enders Gate had around 1,000 active players and 2,000 active Discord members. They then jumped to about 798,000 players and over 20,000 Discord members during the event.
“It was a good learning curve for us because we actually got a chance to experience such a huge influx of players. And it gave us the know-how,” shares Nimako on the spike in users. “We needed to handle traffic better. A lot of players let us know that. So we bumped up a lot of our infrastructure on the fly.”
Before the voyage, the team utilized various services for their infrastructure needs but realized through feedback that consolidating would be a better approach. Enders Gate took the feedback and has paused the game, working with AWS to scale up their infrastructure in preparation for their next event.
In addition to infrastructure, Enders Gate is working on new content. As Nimako tells us, “A lot of players said they loved the game. They had a lot of fun with it. And they wanted more content. So we took that to the drawing board.”
The team is working on a new release that will introduce additional game modes and additional trading cards featuring the Netflix series Ultraman. Stay tuned for Enders Gate updates on X or Disord.
FWDX is an onchain, peer-to-peer (P2P) swap platform launched in 2021. It prioritizes zero slippage, firm quotes, and shared profits.
“We were deep in the web3 world and had all this technology around us. And we were facing this situation: ‘I don't trust you, but you've got something I want. I just want to swap it with you.’ And if only there were a decentralized way of doing this,” shares Matt Johnson, chief operating officer and co-founder at FWDX.
Countless coffees and brainstorms later, FWDX was born with a clear vision. “We just want to be the kind of a simple venue where you come and go, I have USDT, I want USDC,” explains Johnson.
“It doesn't work like your average DEX. We prefer to view it almost like a public over-the-counter (OTC) marketplace. Like a smart escrow service,” adds Mark Garcia, FWDX’s senior advisor and co-founder.
FWDX was an early dapp to build on Linea. “The important thing to us was keeping it cheap,” says Garcia. With increasing gas prices on Ethereum, Garcia and Johnson needed a more cost-effective solution and turned to Linea, with its capabilities for scalability and lower transaction costs.“What I really liked about Linea is it captured that kind of excitement of when Ethereum was young,” recalls Johnson.
Both Johnson and Garcia express the importance of Linea’s community feedback to growing the FWDX platform. “The community was just super smart and really useful and insightful,” Garcia says.
In November 2023, FWDX participated in Linea’s DeFi Voyage. Like Enders Gate, user numbers skyrocketed, and with it, there was an opportunity to assimilate new feedback. “That stress-tested us. That was really powerful feedback,” says Garcia.
The depth of the feedback was extensive, thanks to the quality and investment of Linea’s community. The team received and adapted to feedback, including contract speed and how much traffic the platform could take, user experience (UX), and even how efficient the coding was within the smart contract itself.
“Our CTO ended up redoing the code and saving calculations purely because of that feedback. The code is more efficient as a result. So that voyage really did help to positively change the DNA of the whole platform.” adds Garcia.
Following the voyage, FWDX took time to take a step back and improve, addressing all user feedback. This included boosting their capabilities to include 9,000 tokens, instant swaps, and growing wallet compatibility.
Down the pipeline, FWDX is working on a smart contract-driven, 100% revenue share token in addition to introducing enhanced functionality on the platform. Follow FWDX on X or join their Discord for updates.
