Adélaïde Laurent-Bellue on Physical and Web3 Art Coexistence

The final wave of Culture SZN is here! Over the past three weeks, we’ve seen web3 NFT art ranging from the lore-driven Satoshi Universe to KanNFTStudio’s hypnotic Ceiba tree. New communities have budded around these artists and our first Linea Guilds have formed.

For Wave 4, Lineans are minting NFT drops from Coop Records, Borja Moskv, Forbidden Fruit, and Adélaïde Laurent-Bellue. Adélaïde’s body of work brings a dreamy, hectic inner world into physical and digital realities, leaving the final interpretation to the viewer. We sat down with Adélaïde to learn more about the artist’s NFT for Culture SZN, her crossover from physical to digital, and how blockchain technology impacts the art world.

The physical Les Géants consists of canvases of varying sizes mounted on a single panel. The arrangement creates a cosmic and light atmosphere, reinforced by a luminous halo on the central canvas, which is also the work available to mint. Art by Adélaïde Laurent-Bellue.

Linea: Tell us a little about your background! Was there a moment when you realized your calling as an artist?

Adélaïde: The first time I realized I might be one of them was when I was 8. I was at the museum, copying Monet's nympheas on the ground. It's my strongest childhood memory.

Linea: How do you feel blockchain has changed the art world, whether positively or negatively?

Adélaïde: Blockchain certainly hasn't changed the art world negatively. It seems to me that everything is still very young, very recent. We're still in the early stages of what could be the encounter between blockchain and the art world.

Linea: Has your concept of ownership changed or evolved since the advent of NFTs?

Adélaïde: Owning an NFT is not incompatible with owning physical works of art. So, no, my concept of ownership hasn't changed.

Linea: How do you see the flow from physical to digital art, and how does this relate to other art spaces, such as physical or digital art galleries?

Adélaïde: I think that physical art and digital art are two different worlds, which can coexist – or exist without each other. For me, the easy link between these two worlds is the auction house.

You call on themes of escape, fantasy, and freedom in your art. Does stepping into the web3 world and NFTs propel or relate to these themes?

Adélaïde: Completely. What appeals to me about the blockchain world is its disintermediated, libertarian aspect – the opposite of the ultra-standardized, opaque historical institutions.

Linea: What has your experience been like partaking in Culture SZN and growing with the Linea community?

Adélaïde: I hope I'm just at the beginning of this experience. For now, I feel valued as an artist, which is a very good thing!

Linea: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your work for Culture SZN? :)

Adélaïde: Rather than an inspiration, I'd better call it an exhalation! In this work, Les Géants, I wanted to represent an allegory of space, where everything remains to be discovered, where the field of possibilities is infinite. Where dreaming is still possible.

Linea: What piece of advice would you give to artists who are only starting or are hesitant about working with NFTs?

Adélaïde: I'd tell them it's a great opportunity to get our work out to a new community and that NFTs have no impact on the value of physical artworks. There's nothing to lose.
